Dreamland is a space of otherness. An homage to one of Coney Island's first amusement parks, the immersive installation is a pastiche of places and times; past, present and future, both familiar and exotic. A modern boardwalk with the nostalgic bounce and feel of childhood memories. A series of commissioned soundscapes wafts through the air, echoing memories that never were. With a spin of the golden ring at its center, participants create a spectacle of lights and fire. The direction and velocity of the central carousel is processed by digital systems together with input from buttons on the lampposts in order to generate complex atmospheric effects of light, color, sound and flame. The interactivity sponsors collaboration, civic community, a sense of place and of timelessness.
